For me, travel and photography are inseparable. They are my passions.
When traveling to Sicily, I went without any preconceptions. I explored each place we visited allowing myself to experience things anew. I photographed both the mundane as well as the extravagant to show the diversity of this land and its people.
I use a plastic camera that is susceptible to distortion and anomalies. Its square format tends to isolate the subject matter in a deep space. My use of color film with long exposures lasting from up to half an hour creates unnatural color shifts and the camera’s simple shutter mechanism allows for the easy creation of multiple exposures. I use the camera as a tool to show what the eye cannot see; revealing a type of camera-vision. These dream-like photographs describe my intuitive memory of this place- images that show the beauty and mystery of Sicily.
