Our vision is a luxury during the day yet at night, we must adapt. We instinctively use our other senses. Technology has become our new eyes at night. Streetlights, flashlights and other illuminating man made instruments makes the world conform to our wants and needs. Without these aids, the world becomes unfamiliar and primitive. I let go of this mentality of adaptation. I allow the world around me uninterrupted to continue. I come upon these landscapes as if a stranger on a foreign planet. I built a 4x5 camera out of wood with a plastic lens. The lenses were manufactured to have soft focus and aberrations unique to each camera. The controls are limited yet results are varied. I do not use a tripod. Each scene becomes unique depending on the placement and angle the camera views the scene. This makes chance a factor. I use both new and outdated film. My goal is to capture images, by any means necessary. The color in these images is a result from long exposures lasting up to two hours. I use large format film and scan it. I allow myself to only edit color, contrast and cropping. These images are 40x40 and 20x20 digital inkjet prints. These two sizes of images create a tension interweaving together.
